5 Day Class - The abatement project monitor is an individual that is responsible for the on-site observation of asbestos abatement activities. The abatement project monitor is often also responsible for the collection of air samples before, during and after (final clearance) asbestos abatement. This program is designed based on the project monitor training requirements outlined in the Model Accreditation Plan of EPA’s regulation referred to as AHERA (40 CFR Part 763). The 5-day program describes asbestos and asbestos containing materials, the role of the project monitor, state and federal regulations, building construction issues, project specifications, asbestos response actions, personal protection equipment, legal responsibilities and an extensive treatment of air sampling strategies, equipment, calibration and a variety of other issues. This program meets the state of Tennessee requirements for certification as a Project Monitor. This program does not instruct students on phase contrast microscopy (PCM) analysis of air samples. We offer a program Asbestos in Buildings: Air Sampling and Analysis (NIOSH 582 Equivalent) if air sampling and PCM skills are desired. Check with your State/Local program or call TEI for guidance if in doubt as which program is best for your needs. Students will have to master basic mathematical skills. A basic scientific calculator is recommended.
